Belgium are through to the Davis Cup final for the first time since 1904 after beating Argentina 3-2 on a tense Sunday in Brussels.

And the Belgians will now play host to Great Britain, also returning to the final after a lengthy absence, in the Cup decider on 27-29 November.

Belgium began the day trailing 2-1 but their number one player David Goffin then secured his second straight sets win of the weekend when he comfortably defeated Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-2 6-1 to level the tie.

That set up a deciding rubber between World No 64 Darcis and, coincidentally, World No 65 Federico Delbonis of Argentina.

And in front of a raucous crowd at the Forest National, Darcis emerged as the hero after a 6-4 2-6 7-5 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Delbonis emerged with credit, levelling the match in the second set and then breaking in the fourth when Darcis served for the match at 5-4, saving a couple of match points into the bargain.

But, to his credit, Darcis recovered his composure and held serve to force a tie-break which he won 7-3, after powering into a 5-1 lead.

Darcis said: "For our small country it's pretty good. For me, it's really big. I fight and I fight and this time I had the win.

"David Goffin played great, he gave me the chance to finish the job.

"Inside, it was so hard to stay calm.

"I was so tight when I had the first two match points but I played an amazing tie-break. We said before it would be a very long weekend and that was the case."

Argentina had been looking to secure a fifth Davis Cup final appearance but they have yet to actually win the team competition.

Schwartzman had to step in on the final day because their No 1 player Leonardo Mayer was fatigued after winning a singles match on Friday and then a doubles rubber on Saturday.
