Manny Pacquiao says Americans are “smart enough” to pick their own Presidential candidate when quizzed about his opinion by Michelle Joy Phelps

Manny Pacquiao stayed tight-lipped about American presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton when quizzed about next month's election.

The Filipino star, who is an elected senator in his home country, has been preparing in America for his next fight against WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas on November 5, three days before the election.

But Pacquiao politely refused to reveal his own opinions about Trump and Clinton and preferred to talk about his attempt to regain the title he lost in the 'Fight of the Century' points loss to Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking to Michelle Joy Phelps of Behind the Gloves, the 37-year-old said: "I decided to shut my mouth. I believe that American people are smart enough to choose their good leader."

'Pac Man' made a successful return to the ring earlier this year as he defeated American Timothy Bradley on points in an April rematch.
