Lee Selby insists he would welcome a British battle with Josh Warrington if he wins a world title next month.
The Welshman will challenge Evgeny Gradovich for the IBF featherweight belt at London’s O2 Arena on May 30, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
But he kept a close eye on Warrington, his Leeds rival, from ringside as the hometown favourite pounded out a one-sided points win over Dennis Tubieron at the First Direct Arena.
There has already been talk about a big domestic showdown between the duo and Selby is open to the idea if he emerges victorious in the capital.
It won’t be long before I’m here, fighting in front of this crowd, and I’ll be sure to silence them.
“He’s winning and improving with every fight,” Selby told Sky Sports. “He’s picked up another one of my vacant titles - the WBC international title and he’s snapping at my heels.
“It won’t be long before I’m here, fighting in front of this crowd, and I’ll be sure to silence them.”
Warrington has built up a large following and believes a clash with Selby could be staged in a huge venue.
“I think I would have got a stoppage if he wasn’t there. I’m getting a bit shy," he joked.
“I wish him all the best and I hope he goes and gets the world title. I think it would sell out a stadium if me and him were going to get it on. That’s a fight I’m after."
I’m always improving and it’s good to get another 12 rounds under my belt.
Despite his relentless assault, Warrington could not find a punch to stop his Filipino opponent and intends to sharpen his skills with another European title defence.
“Massive credit to Debnnis Tubieron, he’s as hard as nails,” said Warrington.
“I thought a couple of times I was going to get him out of there. Full credit, he’s a tough opponent and we did what we had to do.
“I’ve been a bit reckless from time-to-time. I’ve still got plenty more to bring. I’m always improving and it’s good to get another 12 rounds under my belt.
“I’ve got a mandatory on my European, so that’s what I’ll look to do next. Come back here, entertain these guys, and get a bit more experience under my belt.”
