Chris Eubank Sr is relishing his son's future with Matchroom Boxing

Chris Eubank wants to be called simply 'English' to avoid confusion with his son, WBA interim middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr.

Eubank Sr (45-5-2-KO23) is a former world middleweight champion and his career reached its pinnacle during a rivalry with fellow Briton Nigel Benn in the 1990s.

Now managing his son (19-1-KO14), who was unveiled as a Matchroom fighter on Friday, Eubank Sr has suggested people refer to him by a different name to avoid confusion between the two.

He told Sky Sports: "It's not that I want to be known as 'English' - it's just that it's easier to call me that because Junior, when people call him 'Chris', I look because I don't know who they're referring to.

"'Senior' is a name given to Floyd Mayweather Sr. 'English' may be easier. Plus, it was my father's nickname. He loved everything English and now I'm going to carry on the tradition."

Eubank Sr - or 'English' - spent much of his fighting career under the promotional guidance of Barry Hearn, father of current Matchroom Boxing supremo Eddie Hearn.

Of the link between the families, Eubank Sr added: "With him [Barry Hearn] we were able to have a lot of fun and give the public a lot of fun. We are now looking to replicate that with his son, with my son.

You can now watch Chris Eubank Jr on Sky Sports, will he follow his father all the way to the top?

"Eddie has the ability and the savvy. He's smart and relentless in getting these fights out there to give the fighters the opportunity to realise their potential.

"We are looking at all of them. Middleweights and super-middleweights. Junior said the other day that he's going to try and take the place of Floyd Mayweather Jr and I don't think there's anyone better than this young man to lead him to that path."

Eubank Jr is set to make his debut on the Kell Brook v Diego Chaves card on October 24.
