Kell Brook has hit back at Amir Khan after being told he must "step up his game" to secure a showdown with his domestic rival.

Khan recently said he was willing to face Brook next year but only if his domestic rival fights big-name boxers first.

Brook returns to the ring next month against Diego Chaves when he puts his IBF title on the line for a third time.

Former two-time welterweight champion Khan has yet to agree an opponent for his next fight but is in talks with former stable partner Manny Pacquiao.

The Bolton boxer, who beat Chris Algieri on points in his last fight in May, also revealed a rematch with Danny Garcia could also be a possibility.

Undefeated Brook, meanwhile, is unimpressed by Khan's advice to fight "top guys like I'm doing".

The 29-year-old, who halted Frankie Gavin in six rounds in May to claim his 35th straight win and 24th stoppage, took to social media to respond to Khan.
