Josh Warrington has hit back at IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, insisting he will “silence a lot of people” if they meet in a proposed world title fight next summer.

Warrington will defend his WBC International featherweight title against Jorge Sanchez at the O2 Arena in London on December 12, aiming to extend his unbeaten professional record to 23-0.

Selby is likely to be ringside to watch Warrington take on Sanchez and recently stressed that his domestic rival must impress to earn himself a shot at his IBF belt.

"It's just about getting the win. Mr Selby has recently said I need to put a performance in on Saturday night, but I think it's just about getting the win," Warrington told Sky Sports News HQ

"We keep moving forward and each time I step up a level, I have to make sure I win."

Sky Sports pundit and former four-time world champion Carl Froch recently claimed Warrington would fail to defeat Selby if the pair meet next summer.

When asked about the comments, Warrington said: "Everyone is entitled to their opinions. That said, we will see on the night.

"I just have to keep on winning, Lee has to keep on winning to keep the title and we go from there.

"If he stays as champ and I get my shot, I feel I will silence a lot of people. I know what I am capable of and we will only know when we fight."

However, the 25-year-old is refusing to look past Sanchez and he admits preparing for the unbeaten Panamanian has proved tough, with little footage of his previous fights.

"It's another tough fight, hopefully I can end the year on a high and go into 2016 really wanting to push on to world level," he added.

"I am looking forward to going down there next week, it's a massive show to be on and I want to put a good performance on.

"Someone's 'o' has got to go! It's hard when you are fighting someone like him because there's not much footage out there of him, but he carries a decent knockout ratio and looking at that you can tell he carries a big punch.

"I've got to stick to what I want to do, box him and make sure I get the win."
