Gennady Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez is relishing the prospect of seeing the WBA and IBF middleweight champion take on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2016.

As a result of holding the WBC intern world title, Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Alvarez's belt, and the World Boxing Council is allowing the pair to take interim fights in the first half of next year.

Should both fighters prevail they would be required to negotiate a bout later in 2016 or lose their WBC titles.

However, Sanchez does not expect Alvarez to last the distance when he faces the unbeaten Golovkin.

Sanchez said: "Okay, I understand they [Alvarez's team] want to (build up) the fight. Mayweather-Pacquiao was worth $30m five years ago and now it costs hundreds of millions," Sanchez said.

"That part is fine, but athletically I'm positive that Canelo won't last nine rounds with Golovkin - whether it happens in May, September 2016 or 2020.
