Dereck Chisora insists a possible fight with Anthony Joshua will 'always be there' and has backed his British rival to knock out IBF champion Charles Martin.

Joshua can become Britain's latest world heavyweight champion when he challenges Martin for the IBF title at the O2 Arena on April 9, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Before that fight was confirmed, Chisora was considered one of the favourites to face Joshua, but could not agree financial terms.

'Del Boy' has instead opted to challenge Kubrat Pulev for the European title, but believes he is still a potential foe if Joshua seeks out a bumper domestic fight in the future.

"It's always going to be there," Chisora told Sky Sports. "When he wins, he's going to ask to fight me or David Haye.

It's always going to be there. It's a fight which none of us can hide away from.

"It's always going to be there. It's a fight which none of us can hide away from. But it has to be on great terms for both parties."

Joshua has admitted he is taking a risk by making the step-up to world title level in only his 16th fight.

Back in 2012, Chisora suffered a creditable points defeat when he faced WBC champion Vitali Klitschko in his 18th ring appearance, and insists it is desire rather than experience that will prove crucial in the Martin-Joshua fight.

"Every fight in the heavyweight game is a 50-50 fight," said the 32-year-old. "Dillian Whyte was a 50-50 fight. It's all about who wants it more in that split second - that is it. Some guys get in the ring, but really and truly they don't want to be in the ring.

"Charles Martin and AJ, it's about who wants it more. Charles Martin has tasted the good life, he wants that good life, and no-one wants to lose that. You're world champion, you're making so much money and this and that.

"We're all trying to get to the top, we're all fighting for a world title. AJ is ready for it. Everybody is ready for a world title fight, there is no risk to take. The only person taking a risk is Charles Martin, who might lose his title."

Joshua and Martin are yet to suffer a defeat in the professional ranks, but Chisora is favouring his countryman to extend his destructive record of stoppage wins against the American.

Anthony Joshua admits he needs to improve if he's to beat Charles Martin

"I know what his [Martin] game-plan is - he's going to try and box AJ the first two to four rounds and try and take it to the deep end, which might be harder for AJ. But AJ has got the first two rounds and he'll knock him out if he wants to.

"Yes, he's going to win it by knockout I think."
