Crolla vs Barroso: Joe Gallagher joins Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson
Friday 6 May 2016 17:46, UK
Anthony Crolla has a daunting task on his hands in defending his world title against Ismael Barroso - but trainer Joe Gallagher is confident.
The likeable Mancunian (30-4-3-KO12) won the WBA world lightweight crown by flooring Darleys Perez with a vicious body shot in November and will meet first challenger Barroso at the same venue - the Manchester Arena.
Barroso is an unbeaten and heavy-handed Venezuelan who has form on British soil. In December, the 33-year-old silenced The O2 by blasting Kevin Mitchell aside in the fifth round to claim the mandatory position and a shot at Crolla, who watched on from ringside.
Any suggestions the champion would make an attempt to swerve Barroso were immediately dismissed as a smiling Crolla reiterated his desire to be a true champion by taking on the best.
With the possibility of unification fights in the offing, Crolla said during fight week there is 'no room for error.'
