Liam Smith wants to face Amir Khan in a "massive fight" this year after the Bolton boxer's defeat to Saul Alvarez.

Smith will make the second defence of his WBO super-welterweight title next month when he faces Predrag Radosevic in Liverpool on June 4.

The undefeated Liverpudlian shared a ring with Khan as a sparring partner in preparation for the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion's clash with Saul Alvarez.

Khan stepped up two divisions to take on 'Canelo' but was knocked out in six rounds in Las Vegas on Saturday night and is expected to drop back down in weight.

"I think a fight with Amir Khan is now more realistic after what happened at the weekend," Smith told sportinglife.

Johnny Nelson gives Amir Khan credit following his brutal KO and also had some words of caution

"I've been sparring him and I know he's put muscle on so it will be hard for him to shed it and go back down to 147lbs. So I'll wait to see what he wants to do - but it's interesting times."

Smith, 27, who is also willing to face Sheffield IBF welterweight king Kell Brook, added: "I'm definitely looking for a massive fight in September as I'm very confident of beating Radosevic on June 4.

Kell Brook says he would knock out Amir Khan

"I asked for this opponent for my first defence as stylistically it will be good,

"He's a good, solid European fighter - a bit like an Arthur Abraham and has only lost to a good Felix Sturm at middleweight so it's a solid defence for me.

Amir Khan has dismissed the possibility of fighting domestic rival Kell Brook

"People might think he's not a big name, but it's a good voluntary when you look into it properly. This is certainly a step up from Jimmy Kelly [first defence] if you look at the class he has mixed in.

"He's orthodox and he'll come to fight - anyone who knows me will tell you that's what I like. I don't want to be chasing a big, awkward southpaw around the ring. I want a fight that people will enjoy."
