Middleweight Kelly Morgan cannot believe she is on the verge of fulfilling a childhood dream after landing the WBC Silver belt and claiming pole position to fight for a world title.
The former Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist outpointed unbeaten German Lisa Cielas in Swindon last Friday, on Neilson Boxing's first professional show.
She is now in line to fight for the WBC world middleweight title, and Morgan, a former member of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, is pleased she has finally found her calling.
"It's still hasn't sunk in at all. It's all a bit if a blur and it will take a little time to settle in," the former England netballer told Sky Sports.
"I've been after becoming a world champion since I was five years old. I didn't know in what sport at that point but I always had two goals - to be part of the Army's Physical Training Corps, and to be a world champion in sport.
"I've taken the long route to get here but I feel like I've been given another lifeline and I'm now one step closer. This has been my ultimate goal for more than 30 years.
"At every step of the journey there are reminders that I am in the right road. The paths I was on in netball, athletics, the army all came to a dead end.
"Finally I've found my place and I've just got to make the most of every opportunity now."
Morgan's WBC Silver title win was just her fourth contest since turning professional.
"This is a really good thing and now I must enjoy it," she added.
"The temptation is to park it and move on to what is next. But it's important to sit down and reflect. To have done this 18 months into boxing is just insane.
"My trainer Richard Farnan will now speak to the WBC. They told us the world title fight is in the pipeline if we won the Silver belt.
"There are a few question marks regarding timescales but we now know it is going to happen and I will get that title shot. It's just a matter of when."
