David Allen vowed to take advantage of a 'last chance' from promoter Eddie Hearn after suffering defeat in his Commonwealth title fight with Lenroy Thomas.

The Doncaster heavyweight was on the receiving end of heated words from Hearn in the aftermath of his split decision defeat to Thomas last Saturday, with two judges awarding victory to the Jamaican by a single point at Bramall Lane.

Allen admits his promising career cannot afford another setback following previous losses to Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz, but he remains determined to repay the faith shown in him.

"I think Eddie just wants me to give 100 per cent, simple as that," Allen told Sky Sports. "Probably yes, it is probably my last chance with Eddie Hearn, but this is the only chance that I feel like I'm going to need, because it's definitely coming.

"A couple of wins and I'm straight back in the title scene."

Allen reflects on his narrow points defeat to Thomas at Bramall Lane

The 25-year-old received criticism from Hearn for leaving his hotel to meet fans on the day of the fight, although Allen insists he only intended to thank his growing support.

"I don't disagree with 99 per cent of what he said," said 'The White Rhino.' "He said he will still back me, we'll go again, and that's the main thing.

"He wasn't happy with me going out and seeing people on the day of the fight, but people travelled hundreds of miles from all over the country. They have been giving me unbelievable support and I wanted to give it back. For me, it felt like the right thing to do.

"Next time, Eddie is the man, he's given me the opportunities, and I'll do it his way. I've got to look at the likes of Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko and conduct myself in the same manner - in and out of the gym."

Allen hopes to fight a six-rounder within the next few weeks, away from the television cameras, and still wants a domestic clash with Ian Lewison in the future.

"We're just looking to get out and get a win," said Allen. "It was a hard 12-rounder, very physical. I'm still a bit sore but I don't want to mess about. I need to keep in the gym. I need to get a date to keep my mind on the job.

"I've come up short on three occasions, but it's all going to be worth it because one day I will lift the British title."
