Joe Cordina stopped the experienced Jamie Speight in the first round and says he has benefitted from sparring Jorge Linares

Olympian Joe Cordina made it four first-round stoppage wins from as many fights with a spiteful finish of Jamie Speight at London’s York Hall on Friday night.

The Rio 2016 representative supremely dominated the lightweight contest and finished the fight after a relentless onslaught forced the referee to call a halt to proceedings.

The Welsh wizard is still yet to reach the second round in the paid ranks and following victory, Cordina is now hopeful that heavyweight Anthony Joshua will give him an opportunity to have a homecoming fight in Cardiff.

The 25-year-old quickly got down to business against two-time Southern Area champion Speight, landing successive damaging right hands to both the body and head in the opening minute.

After busting the nose of Speight, Cordina tasted blood and went in for the kill, landing a barrage of punches that forced his 28-year-old opponent onto the ropes before the referee stepped in.

Following victory, Cordina said. "I loved that in there, it was a long, hard camp, we trained for six rounds and got the job done. I really enjoyed the first show of the season.
