Chris Eubank Jr produced a scintillating performance to knock out Avni Yildirim in Stuttgart and defend his IBO super-middleweight world title.

The crowd at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle were firmly on the side of Yildirim but the Turk went down in the first and then was stopped in the third, for the first time in his pro career.

The fight doubled up as a quarter-final of the World Boxing Super Series and Eubank will now meet the winner of next week's George Groves-Jamie Cox bout in the semis.

The 28-year-old seems to be improving all the time and he produced an action-packed display here, swiftly silencing the hostile crowd.

Yildirim was dictating the tempo from the centre of the ring early on but was suddenly caught by an uppercut and sank to his knees to take the count.

The second round was more even but Eubank seemed to have the edge, working hard and landing plenty of punches.
