Jurgen Braehmer set up a World Boxing Super Series clash with Callum Smith by outpointing Rob Brant on Friday night.

Braehmer seemed more comfortable coming down to super-middleweight than the previously unbeaten Brant, who was stepping up in weight, and took the victory by a wide margin on two of the three cards.

The German (49-3, KO-35) managed to keep Brant at bay in the opening two rounds, with his American opponent struggling with his timing as he took on one of the heaviest rivals of his career.

Brant (22-1-KO-15) did hurt Braehmer in the fifth, with the 39-year-old suffering damage to his nose after being caught a couple of times.

But Braehmer controlled the second half of the fight, bar a couple of nervy moments, and steady scoring punches earned him 119-109, 118-110, 116-112 results on the cards.

"I showed what I can do at 39 years of age," said Braehmer.

"I had to work really hard to come back from injuries. I had problems with my back and a muscle tear. Doctors told me I would have to work very hard to come back, and that's what I did."
