Scott Quigg's power has impressed respected trainer Freddie Roach, who would not be shocked if his fighter claims the WBO title with a knockout win over Oscar Valdez.
The 29-year-old Bury man is targeting another world title in a new division when he challenges Valdez for the WBO featherweight belt in Carson in the early hours of Sunday morning, live on Sky Sports.
Roach has worked with the likes of Mike Tyson, Miguel Cotto, and Manny Pacquiao, and admits that Quigg's aggressive style has earned his respect.
"Valdez is a very tough guy," said Roach. "He comes to fight. Pretty good left hook, big overhand right, pretty methodical. We can read him and we can beat him with speed and so forth.
"The thing is - a lot of people don't understand the power he [Quigg] has. He has tremendous power also and I wouldn't be surprised if he knocks this guy out."
Quigg moved to Los Angeles to link up with Roach at the 'Wild Card' gym just over a year ago, and the 57-year-old hailed the former WBA super-bantamweight champion as a 'dream come true.'
"He's a great student," said Roach. "He comes to work, he makes my job easy. He's always in shape.
"We don't have to worry about that at all. He will never get tired in a fight, because he works so hard and is a very dedicated kid.
"He's a dream come true. He's a great kid to have around."
Victory would boost Quigg's profile in a star-filled weight class, including domestic duo Carl Frampton and Lee Selby, with Roach eager to set-up more major fights in the future.
"There are some really good guys in that division," he said. "There are a lot of big names out there for us and any one of them, line them up."
Watch Scott Quigg against WBO champion Oscar Valdez in Carson on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action this Sunday from 2am.
