Light-welterweight champion wins on debut at 147lb

WBO light-welterweight champion Timothy Bradley tested the waters at 147lb on Saturday night with a unanimous points victory over Luis Carlos Abregu. The 26-year-old dominated the previously unbeaten Argentinian and his classy combinations proved the difference between the pair. The American was clearly ahead at halfway by outworking his opponent, although both were cut following an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round. A left hook stunned Abreu in the ninth, effectively ending his challenge as Bradley coasted through the final three sessions to extend his record to 26-0, the judges scoring it 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112. Bradley immediately called out Manny Pacquiao in the post-fight interview, with the Filipino in need of an opponent if Floyd Mayweather fails to agree a deal. More realistic contests for the American include unification fights with IBF and WBC champion Devon Alexander and Amir Khan, the WBA belt holder, with Bradley expressing himself happy to take on all-comers. Former two-weight champion Zab Judah could be another possible opponent after the New Yorker stopped Jose Armando Santa Cruz in his first fight of the year. Now 32, Judah is returning to the light-welterweight division and could still be a match for any of the current champions of the evidence of his three-round demolition of Santa Cruz in New Jersey.
