Jeffries refusing to under-estimate Friday's opponent
Tony Jeffries is still taking it one step at a time as he continues to build his reputation in the professional ranks.
'Jaffa' returns to the ring at Rainton Meadows Arena on Friday night when he takes on the tough Staines-based Pole Michael Banbula.
It will be Jeffries' eighth outing since turning professional and the Olympic bronze medalist is happy to be continuing his education at a modest level.
"The other Olympic boxers have won titles straight away, which is fine, but i'm happy with eight rounders and taking each fight at a time," said the popular Mackem.
"I dont want to look too far down the line. I need to concentrate on what's in front of us. For me it's once step at a time and the titles will come."
Banbula has won only 10 of his 38 fights but is on a three-fight winning run and scored a points victory over former Prizefighter champion Tony Oakey last out.
"I've spoken to Carl Dilks who has fought him twice and he says he's very awkward," Jeffries told
skysports.com. "He's a tricky opponent, tricky to land the shots because he's always moving away.
"He's just beaten Tony Oakey, I know Oakey's not at his best but it's still a good win for him.
"We'll see how it goes, I don't really plan on getting rid of any of them out early but five of my seven opponents I've took out in two rounds, so if it comes it comes.
"I need the rounds, and i'm not going to underestimate him because he's a tricky opponent, so it should be a good fight for us."
