Welshman confident as he bids for Commonwealth title

Jamie Arthur believes he can be a force at super-bantamweight as he prepares to challenge for the vacant Commonwealth title. The Welshman will take on the unbeaten Kris Hughes in East London on October 16 and says he is comfortable at the 122lb limit after dropping down a division. Arthur (17-4) went down to a courageous points defeat to British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay earlier this year although his first appearance at super-bantamweight did not go to plan. The 30-year-old lost in the semi-finals of Prizefighter in May but he insists he is feeling strong at the weight. "I made the weight comfortably and although this fight is short notice I can be a force to be reckoned with," said Arthur, who took the fight after Matthew Marsh made a sudden decision to retire. "I feel I am getting better with age and I am much stronger than I was a few years ago, and that makes it easier to get in shape. "The Lindsay fight was hard, but I didn't show myself up against a boxer who is likely to fight for European and world title." The fight takes place on the same card as the feature that sees Sam Webb take on Martin Conception for the British light-middleweight title.
