Kent fighter claims knockout win at The Troxy

British light-middleweight champion Sam Webb has successfully retained the Lonsdale Belt following a knockout victory over challenger Martin Concepcion. Kent fighter Webb dictated his first title defence from start to finish, eventually ending the contest in the 11th round with a ferocious right hand. Leicester puncher Concepcion stopped his first seven professional opponents inside three rounds, however he could not cope with Webb's speed in the early stages. The 29-year-old champion, who stunned Anthony Small back in March to claim the title, picked off his opponent at will, leading off his strong left jab. Concepcion changed his tactics in the fourth round and looked to get in closer in an attempt to ruffle Webb.

Classy

However, the plasterer from Chislehurst continued to dictate proceedings, catching his opponent with his strong jab before landing crisp right-hands over the top. Although Concepcion imposed himself on the fight better in the fifth after a few stern words from his corner, Webb upped his work-rate and caught his opponent with a couple of classy left-hand shots. Concepcion threw caution to the wind in round eight, but Webb continued to keep his man at arms' length and landed a couple more telling blows of his own. With the fight slipping away from him, East Midlander Concepcion was urged to attack by his corner late on, but a crunching right hand from Webb knocked Concepcion flat on his back in the penultimate round to seal a commanding victory. Speaking to Sky Sports 1 after the fight, Webb said: "It ended up being alright in the end, yeah. "I've got a point to prove to a few people. I know a few people don't think I'm the best light-middleweight in the country and I don't claim to be. "I'm definitely up there with (Ryan) Rhodes, he's the best in the division but I'm right on his heels."
