More big fights beckon for Barker according to promoter
Promoter Eddie Hearn is confident there are further world title opportunities for British middleweight Darren Barker.
The Essex fighter performed with credit against Sergio Martinez on Saturday, holding his own until suffering a late stoppage.
However, the performance announced Barker on the world stage and Hearn has revealed talks have already taken place with Australia's Daniel Geale and Mexico's Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - respective holders of the IBF and WBC straps.
"I know how good Barker is, and I knew even if he lost he would come out of it smelling of roses and that's exactly what happened," Hearn said.
"Now we've had two offers for a world title fight for Barker (from) Geale and we're talking to Chavez as well. That's possibly Geale in London and maybe Chavez in Mexico.
"These are just people contacting us saying 'would you, how much?', but automatically we're now in a great position."
And despite falling short against the middleweight division's premier operator, Hearn is backing Barker to overcome the best of the rest.
"I don't think there's another middleweight in the world that would have beaten him in the Martinez fight," added Hearn.
"Geale I feel would be comfortable, Chavez would be comfortable. (WBO champion Felix) Sturm would be tough because he's quite strong and can bang, but I feel Darren could outbox him totally."
