It's time for Tim as age catches up with Joel
Tim Bradley stopped Joel Casamayor in round eight to retain his WBO world light-welterweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The unbeaten Californian had way too much for his 40-year-old opponent as he improved his perfect professional record to 28-0 (12).
Casamayor meanwhile looked his age, being dominated right from the start and landing just 41 punches in a one-sided encounter on the Pacquiao/Marquez undercard at the MGM Grand.
The 28-year-old Bradley - tipped as a potential future Pacquiao opponent and making his debut under the Top Rank banner - started as the aggressor with Casamayor seemingly just content to survive.
Trying to impress
Tim was trying desperately hard to impress while Casamayor scored more with his head than his gloves - being docked a point by referee Vic Drakulich for a butt in the fourth.
The fifth was a big round for Bradley as he opened up to drop Casamayor with a vicious body shot. And he repeated the dose in the sixth, though the knockdown was questionable this time courtesy of a left-hook-cum-push.
Casamayor did at least make a better fist of things in the seventh, landing a couple of nice right hands. But he was still outworked by the younger, faster Bradley.
And the end finally came in the eighth as Bradley produced some cracking uppercuts to blast the resilience out of Casamayor.
The Cuban (now 38-6-1) fell to a knee in the final seconds of the round and though he got to his feet his corner were in the process of throwing in the towel to end matters.
