David determined to repeat amateur win over British champ
David Price wants to tackle Tyson Fury - once he has got John McDermott out of the way.
The big Liverpudlian has had to reschedule the British heavyweight title eliminator for the new year after a muscle injury meant he could not make the original November 19th date.
But with Fury being knocked down for the first time in his career by little-known Neven Pajkic on Saturday night, Price is convinced he is just one fight away from a crack at the British and Commonwealth champion.
"Fury is the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion and I respect him for that but after I get past John McDermott on January 21st I will be out to prove a point," he said.
"I beat Fury in the amateurs and I will beat him in the pro's and I just hope that both promoters can get this fight on but it is up to the Board of Control to sanction this fight.
"I give Tyson Fury credit. To get up off the canvas and go on to win the fight takes a lot of heart and courage and I hope he shows the same guts by taking me on.
"This is a fight that British public want and deserve."
Audley Harrison is free to resume his much-publicised career after being eliminated from
Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend and has already emerged as a candidate to take on Fury.
But Price, who is undefeated in his 11 pro fights since winning Olympic bronze at Beijing in 2008, will be the mandatory challenger should he come through the experienced McDermott in January.
Cracked
His promoter, Frank Maloney, was the man behind Lennox Lewis' rise to the very top believes and has already opened the door to his rival promoter Mick Hennessy, who is in charge of Fury.
"I once resurrected British boxing with Lennox Lewis and took him to the top and I believe I can do the same with David Price and if Mick Hennessey wants to sit down and negotiate a deal for this fight I am more than happy," said Maloney.
"Mick has done a fantastic job with Fury but I am not sure he wants his golden egg cracked."
