Bantamweight world champion Abner Mares beat Joseph Agbeko for a second time to extend his unbeaten record on Saturday.
IBF bantamweight champ could now face WBA king Moreno
IBF bantamweight champion Abner Mares beat Joseph Agbeko for a second time to extend his unbeaten record on Saturday.
Mares had claimed a controversial win in the pair's August meeting but this time the outcome was clearer.
Despite sustaining a cut in the second round, Mares was able to punch out a convincing points win - all three judges gave him the fight 118-110.
Hometown favourite Mares said: "I'm happy that my fans finally saw my true boxing skills.
"I beat him the first time, and I beat him again. I knew I was winning the whole fight."
Unfair
However, Agbeko disagreed, describing the verdict as "unfair".
On the same card in Anaheim, California, WBA champion Anselmo Moreno was an impressive points winner over Vic Darchinyan, himself a former world champion.
Moreno was easily the better fighter and took the fight on the scorecards by margins of 116-111, 117-110 and 120-107.
A unification title fight between Mares and Moreno is now being touted.
