GB have seven qualifiers after Smith misses out

Anthony Ogogo is the seventh Great Britain boxer to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games after a convincing victory in the final qualifying tournament in Trabzon. The 23-year-old from Lowestoft who only recently returned from a shoulder injury sustained in last September's World Championships, beat Vitali Bandarenka of Belarus 14-7 in their middleweight semi-final. Ogogo said: "I always knew if I got myself fully fit and free from injury then I could compete with the best in the world. It will be a dream come true to represent Great Britain in a home Olympics. "It's been a long, hard journey to get this far but I have qualified now so my focus is going to be all about getting back in the gym, working hard, listening to the coaches and doing everything I can to be successful at the Olympics." Ogogo is the second British fighter to get through in Trabzon following the success of Lochend lightweight Josh Taylor earlier this week. Andrew Selby, Luke Campbell, Thomas Stalker, Fred Evans and Anthony Joshua have already qualified.

Smith heartbreak

But Callum Smith saw his hopes of reaching the London Games dashed in cruel circumstances on Saturday. The Liverpool light-welterweight could only watch in agony as home fighter Bahram Muzaffer beat Azerbaijan's Vatan Huseynli to win the 81kg gold medal. With only three qualifying places left at the weight, Smith's only hope was if Huseynli - to whom he lost 16-14 in the semi-final - had gone on to beat Muzaffer. The women's qualifiers will not be determined until the World Championships in Qinhuangdao, China in May. Nicola Adams, Natasha Jonas and Savannah Marshall are all targeting a place at the Games.
