Prizefighter champion looking to climb light-welterweight ladder

Adil Anwar says he will be inspired by Amir Khan when he takes on Lenny Daws in a British title eliminator on May 19. The fight, for the vacant English light-welterweight title, takes place on a huge night of boxing at Aintree racecourse headlined by David Price's heavyweight clash with Sam Sexton. And for Anwar, his clash with veteran Daws represents another step up following his victory in Prizefighter earlier this year. Good friend Khan has already been world champion at 10st and Anwar harbours similar ambitions despite currently fighting at domestic level. "Amir Khan is an inspiration to me and I also consider Amir a friend," said Anwar. "I speak to Amir and on the night of the Prizefighter he telephoned to show his support. "Never say never, but my targets for the near future don't involve fighting Amir.  He is one of my heroes with alongside Muhammad Ali and Naseem Hamed. "He is fighting at world class level and it would be arrogant to put myself up there and say I am worthy to fight someone who has worked so hard and spent so much time developing his career to get to that position.  "But one thing's for sure, in time I intend on fighting at the same level. For the meantime I'm quite happy with his support." A stacked undercard at Aintree also features Ashley Theophane's British light-welterweight title defence against Steve Williams, with the winner set to face either Anwar or Daws next.
