Briton unable to wrest WBO strap from cruiserweight champ

London-born Ola Afolabi narrowly failed to win the WBO cruiserweight title when champion Marco Huck claimed a majority draw in Germany. Huck, himself fighting just nine weeks after holding WBA heavyweight champ Alexander Povetkin to a draw, finished strongly was given a narrow verdict on just one of the scorecards. Afolabi, who lives in California, dropped his opponent late in the second round although it was not scored as a knockdown. He dominated the early rounds and Huck appeared already weary by halfway, although he had burst into life in the sixth to remind Afolabi who was champion. His attacks grew in regularity and the eighth was another big round for the German-based Croatian as Afolabi took several huge shots to the head. The pair went toe-to-toe in the final session with everything on the line, Afolabi wobbled several times but remained upright in a rip-roaring conclusion to a competitive contest.
