'Viking Warrior' returns with knockout victory over American

Former Carl Froch opponent Mikkel Kessler made a stunning ring return at the weekend when he stopped Allan Green in Copenhagen. Kessler, who beat Froch on points in a barnstorming World Super Six fight two years ago, was making only his second appearance since against the American light-heavyweight. Green, who lost both his Super Six contests, has since moved up to light-heavyweight but it was Kessler who ultimately had the superior power at the higher weight. The 33-year-old picked himself up from a first round knockdown to dominate the fight. A huge right hand floored Kessler, but after beating the count it was he who finished the stronger sending his opponent into the ropes with a jolting left hook. The next round saw the left again working well for the home hero, Green again left wobbling and hanging on for the bell. The third belonged to Kessler again as he looked to work an opening, but he had to wait until the next session before it came just 17 seconds into it - another massive left hook turning Green's lights out. In winning the WBC Silver light-heavyweight title, Kessler is seemingly in line for the winner of the September clash between Andre Ward and Chad Dawson. However, perhaps a more attractive fight would see the 'Viking Warrior' take on the winner of Saturday's match-up in Nottingham between Froch and Lucian Bute.
