Former light-welterweight champion says he will knock out Garcia
Amir Khan has promised he will claim an explosive victory when he faces off against WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia on July 14.
The Bolton fighter is aiming to get back to winning ways after losing the WBA and IBF titles to Lamont Peterson, who subsequently caused a rematch between the two to be cancelled after a positive doping test.
Khan is now set on taking the belt off Garcia in Las Vegas and says the 24-year-old American will be in for a shock despite the fact he boasts a perfect professional record.
"We're going to see an explosive Amir Khan in there and we're going to see Danny Garcia, who's an unbeaten fighter and owns the WBC title," Khan said.
"But I don't think he's faced anyone as explosive, as strong or as powerful as Amir Khan. It's going to be a fight that is going to shut all the critics up and also it's going to be a great win for me."
The hostilities between the two camps have already opened with Garcia's father Angel telling a press conference in Los Angeles that Khan was "over-rated" and being met with a firm response.
Good fight
Khan said: "I promise you this will be a good fight. When I beat your son, will I still be over-rated?
"I have seen him fight, he has a dangerous style. Don't get me wrong, he is tough, but he has never faced anyone like me. I am the best guy he has faced.
"It's a shame that his father will not be taking the punches that his son is going to suffer for. You can expect an explosive fight and I will go in and win. I will be on my A game and I will knock Garcia out."
Khan was set to face Peterson on May 19 before the bout was dropped at the 11th hour and the British fighter says he is now chomping at the bit to finally get back in the ring.
"I'm already in great shape from the last fight against Lamont Peterson that got cancelled," the 2004 Olympic silver medallist added.
"We had a nine-ten week training camp and I've kept up that training up with Ruben Tabares, my new strength conditioner. I feel strong and ready and I can't wait to get in there and fight."
