Mexican stays unbeaten with stoppage victory in Texas

Julio Cesar Chavez jr answered his many critics and lined up a big fight with Sergio Martinez with a seventh round stoppage of Andy Lee in El Paso. Chavez jr is now 46-0 with one drawn but has yet to fight at a true elite level despite making his third defence of the WBC middleweight title. However, at 26 he is still improving and it showed against Irishman Lee, who was the busier of the pair and ahead on the cards when Chavez stepped it up in the seventh. The Mexican had shown signs that he was able to take out his opponent with some blistering attacks to the body, and when he trapped Lee on the ropes the referee was quick to step in with the challenger out of ideas. Chavez was quickly confirmed as the next opponent for Sergio Martinez on September 15 with the winner rightly proclaimed as the best middleweight around, with Martinez currently holding the WBC's 'Diamond' belt. The fight, on Mexican Independence Day, is set to clash with the another match-up involving a Mexican superstar on a rival pay-per-view channel, when Saul Alvarez defends his light-middleweight belt against Victor Ortiz.
