I'm getting better all the time says Brazilian boxer
Marcelo Luiz Nascimento believes he has a big chance of winning the forthcoming Prizefighter International Heavyweights.
The 31-year-old Brazilian arrived in Britain at the weekend for the showdown on Wednesday June 20 at York Hall, Bethnal Green.
Nascimento, who will face New Yorker Tor Hamer in his first round tie, says he is improving with every fight and has a real chance of going all the way.
Asked on
www.prizefighter.co.uk 'why do you think you will win?' he replied: "Because I'm well trained and I'm growing each time - with what I take out of my fights - and I think I have a big chance."
Nascimento admitted though, that the short, three round format presented a radical change from the type of boxing he was accustomed to.
Formidable
"It's a different challenge," he continued. "It's a challenge of a short fight. It's similar to an amateur fight so we have to modify everything. It's very challenging."
The impact of the competition is also not lost on the Sao Paulo boxer and he hopes a good performance will give his profile a significant boost.
"I would lift my career a lot, and that's what I need at this moment," he added.
Due to the different format of the competition Nascimento has had to adapt his training regime to focus on building his intensity.
With a record of 14 knockouts from his 16 wins the man they call The Hammer represents a formidable opponent. But the modest Brazillian played down his punching power.
"I've changed it a little (my training) because I'm used to doing long fights of 12 rounds," he explained.
Determined
"So with this being a short fight I have to increase the dynamics, the volume of punches and speed."
Asked whether he punched hard however, he said: "More or less, I don't think so much."
Perhaps the biggest problem for the South American though will be a lack of knowledge about the men he is facing.
But win or lose, come Wednesday he says he is determined to acquit himself well and that the most important thing will be to give his all.
"I know some of them from YouTube and watching on the internet but few," he said of his opponents. "Half of them I know.
"I want to give a good fight . Regardless of whether I win or lose, I want to give a good fight. I want to see my evolution. I want to evolve more each time regardless."
