Former two-weight champion set to take on Cano for WBA strap

The WBA have ordered a title fight between Joan Guzman and Pablo Cano following their wins over the weekend. It is all change at the top of the sanctioning body's light-welterweight listings with Danny Garcia afforded 'super champion' status following his victory over Amir Khan earlier this month. With Marcos Maidana now committed to the welterweight division Johan Perez had been made interim champion - until the previously unbeaten Venezuelan lost when his fight against Cano was stopped after a clash of heads opened up a cut over Cano's eye. And with Khan out of the picture, at least for the time being, the highly ranked Guzman steps into the title picture following three wins at 140lbs. The Dominican, a two-weight world champion, has struggled to find his level in recent years following hand injuries and battles with the scales. But after being banned for testing positive for a diuretic at the end of 2010 the still-undefeated 36-year-old has rattled up three wins by stoppage in nine months, putting him back in the title picture some five years after he last held the WBO super-featherweight strap.
