"Obviously he's been retired for three years and he totally understood where I was coming from. I've had to take a lot of things into consideration, age being one of them. "Also the level at which I feel I'm still worthy, which is definitely European title level. But it would have taken me 18 months at least to get back up there, which would have taken me up to 38." Rhodes has no intention of disappearing from the fight game, with several options open to him. "When I get the opportunity to work for Sky on Ringside or Fight Night I love it and if there's a further opportunity to do more it would be an absolute dream," he said. "I love talking about boxing and I'd love to pass my knowledge on in some way. I'm what they call a gym rat, I'm always in there, so hopefully someone can benefit from my experience." And he insisted there would be no going back on his decision to retire. "I'd not told anyone apart from close family, but now I've said it it's real and that's when it gets emotional," he said. "I feel a weight's been lifted from my shoulders and I'm happy with my decision."
