Greater Manchester Police have arrested a teenager on suspicion of the assault that left Anthony Crolla with a fractured skull.

Manchester lightweight Crolla's career is in jeopardy after he was hit over the head with a concrete slab while attempting to apprehend two intruders fleeing his neighbours' house.

A GMP statement read: "Police have now arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of burglary, assault and possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in police custody for questioning.

"A 46-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs."

Crolla remains in hospital after surgery on his injuries, which also included cuts to the head and a broken ankle.

The 28-year-old, whose first world title fight against WBA champion Richar Abril in January is now officially off, is "very lucky to be alive" according to his trainer Joe Gallagher.
