Cello Renda aims to follow in old foe Martin Murray's footsteps and win Prizefighter this weekend.

The Peterborough middleweight lost to the world title challenger in a classic final in the 2008 tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.

More than six years on Murray is making his third world-title challenge, this time against middleweight king and WBA boss Genardy Golovkin, in Monte Carlo, next Saturday.

But first, Renda is one of the eight men doing battle in Blackpool this weekend and he is looking to land the Prizefighter title he missed out on, as well as the £32,000 winner's cheque.

“I have very, very good memories of last time,” said Renda.

“People still talk the final between Martin and me and say it was the best final Prizefighter has had. I know what it is all about going into this Prizefighter, and I know how much I have to dig deep and bite on that gumshield to get that win.

“Being involved in it before has set me up really well for this Prizefighter because I know the lads who are in it this year haven’t been through it like I have and that is going to hold me in good stead.

“I have a good feeling about it because I’ve been here before. I have done the interviews before, the TV with the cameras, I know the format, getting into the ring, out and back in again. I have been through all of that but some of the fighters might freeze in front of it all."

Renda’s second crack at the Prizefighter trophy sees five fighters put their unbeaten records on the line in local favourite Jack Arnfield, Irishman Luke Keeler, Wales’ Tom Doran, Preston’s Mick Hall and Birmingham’s Craig Cunningham, while youngsters Liam Conroy and Luke Crowcroft complete the eight-man line-up.

The draw for the action will be made live on Sky Sports News' Morning View, 10.30am, Thursday.
