British and Commonwealth champion Sam Eggington will meet Frankie Gavin in an all-Birmingham welterweight clash at the Barclaycard Arena on October 17.

Rising star Eggington, 21, has stopped his last six opponents and his only two defeats came in Prizefighter tournaments. Gavin was last in action when halted by IBF world champion Kell Brook in six rounds back in May.

Gavin is Britain's only ever world amateur champion and that defeat left his professional record at 22-2-KO13 while Eggington, who turned professional at the age of 18, has built up a record of 16-2-KO9.

To be honest I'm still in shock that this fight and this card has come together like this. I have to take my hat off to Frankie and Sam.

Another packed night of boxing also sees former European middleweight champion Matthew Macklin stepping down to light-middleweight to clash with Jason Welborn while the Yafai brothers - Kal and Gamal - will be hoping to continue their progress with the former bidding for the British super-flyweight crown against Jason Cunningham.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: "To be honest, I'm still in shock that this fight and this card has come together like this.

"I have to take my hat off to Frankie and Sam. Frankie is straight back in the war zone after his defeat to Kell, and Sam is putting all his hard work on the line at only 21.

"These are the kind of fights that ignite a city and add the local derby of Macklin vs Welborn plus Kal Yafai vs. Doncaster’s Jason Cunningham for the British strap, Birmingham has a night on October 17 to get very excited about."
