Shane Mosley's camp have reacted angrily after the WBC dubbed Ricardo Mayorga's apparent slap as "embarrassing fight simulation".

At a press conference ahead of the veterans' clash at the weekend, Mayorga appeared to slap the backside of Mosley's girlfriend Trista Pisani - sparking a brief melee as the American lunged at the controversial Nicaraguan.

The WBC subsequently issued a press release that said: "The World Boxing Council expresses complete rejection concerning the embarrassing fight simulation between Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga at their press conference yesterday."

Pisani, who is vice-president of operations for Mosley, responded by saying on social media: "I am deeply hurt & disgusted by the @WBCBoxing disregard for me as a woman & executive. They commented with accusations. Not facts. Not OK."

A further statement published by Team Mosley added: "The notion that the WBC would comment on this terrible act against a woman (in an executive role no less) without first examining the facts and at the very least picking up a phone and calling Team Mosley to hear their side of the story on the events that took place is very disappointing and frankly is appalling.

When a woman is potentially violated the WBC has a responsibility to tread more carefully and owes Ms. Pisani an apology.
