But will Amir take the Prescott rematch? Wayne doubts it...

When Breidis Prescott knocked Amir Khan out back in September 2008 it was a shock to everyone especially since it happened in the first minute of the fight Most thought Prescott would have been in line for a crack at a major championship but that didn't happen. Instead Khan came back with three victories and within a year had fought for, and won, the title. Prescott fought five months after the Khan fight against Humberto Toledo and won by disqualification. In July 2009 he fought Miguel Vazquez and lost by split decision even though he had Vazquez down in the first round. Vazquez went on to win the IBF lightweight belt in his next fight. Five months later Prescott lost again, this time to Britain's Kevin Mitchell. So he moved up to light-welter where he restarted his career winning two fights in 2010. Mongolian born Bayan Jargal, who fights out of the US, was Prescott's opponent last weekend. Jargal hadn't fought any named fighters in his 19-fight career having gone 15 wins, 1 loss and 3 draws. I'm sure Khan was still on Prescott's mind since he had gone on to become a star but Prescott hadn't. After Khan's poor performance against Paul McCloskey last week, Prescott must be itching to get him back in the ring. But even if Prescott beat Jargal would Khan consider giving him a rematch? I would if I was Khan because it would be sweet revenge. However Amir has bigger fish to fry. Prescott's knockouts have mostly come in the first three rounds so if his opponent's get past those rounds they may have a better chance of winning. He used his left jab early here, scoring well in the first. Then in the second he threw a right that missed and came across with a left hook on Jargal's chin, momentarily stunning him. Jargal made it past the third after losing the first three rounds but he started pushing Prescott and had some success with lefts. Prescott though, was still controlling the fight mostly with his jabs. Then in the fifth when Jargal looked like he may get into the fight Prescott opened up and landed multiple rights and left hooks to his head.

Scoring

By the sixth Jargal was getting hit over and over again from rights because his left hand was low and his left eye was now swollen. Prescott looked more controlled than usual by the eighth round as he had paced himself, and he was still scoring with his jab and winning the rounds. Jargal had come out swinging this round as if he was trying for a knockout but Prescott stayed calm and moved and jabbed. Jargal probably took this round on the cards which was his first of the fight. In the final two rounds he tried to push his opponent but Prescott had too much left, popping out his jabs and using good foot movement to keep him at bay. Prescott won this fight pretty comfortably and showed better stamina and posture than usual on scores of 99-91, 99-90 and 100-90. Will this fight lure Khan into a rematch, a fight that I think would draw well and have people on the edge of their seats? It remains to be seen if Khan will take the bait or ignore Prescott and move on.
