Arnie backs late call-up Hall to take his big chance

Matthew Hall will go from nowhere to being European champion in the space of two weeks. That is the verdict of trainer Anthony Farnell as his man, a late call-up to the card, boxes for the vacant light-middleweight title on the Magnificent Seven card, live on Sky Box Office HD. Hall (25-2-KO16) faces Czech warhorse Lucas Konecny having been drafted in at the last minute following Ryan Rhodes' withdrawal and subsequent stripping. It has meant a dramatic change in the Mancunian's plans but 'Arnie' Farnell is convinced his man is ready to grab the opportunity with both hands. "Matthew was working hard for a title fight the week after, so it was pretty straightforward to make the switch," he told frankwarren.tv. "Since he got the news he has been really buzzing. I really believe that Hall can win this fight, and if I didn't think that then I would not have allowed him to take it." Konecny comes to Birmingham having held the European title briefly in 2009 and little over two years since pushing then-WBO boss Serhiy Dzinziruk all the way before losing a decision. He has won eight on the bounce and was already slated to face Rhodes before the Yorkshireman's back injury put paid to that. Farnell admits he present a tough test for Hall but is convinced he will be just as well-prepared as his 32-year-old foe. "Konecny is an experienced campaigner and he has fought for a world title before," he said. "But you don't have to go looking for him, and with the kind of power Hall has, that could play right into our hands. "Matthew has had some great sparring with the likes of Frankie Gavin and Tony Bellew, and I promise that he will deliver next Saturday."
