Junior Witter told Ringside he has already set his sights on WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
I will rule the world at welterweight, says Junior
Junior Witter has told Andre Berto he is coming for him.
The Bradford switch-hitter returns to action against Victor Puiu in Canada on February 19, a full 18 months after his last fight - a points loss to Devon Alexander for the WBC light-welterweight title.
Witter, 36, has moved up a division but is already convinced that he can claim his second world title at different weights - despite some huge names holding sway at 147lbs.
Manny Pacquiao has the WBO belt and Floyd Mayweather is also ranked in this class, while the WBC strap is firmly in Andre Berto's grasp.
But that, says Witter, is where he is looking.
"You will see me as world champion," he told
Ringside.
"I am going to go out there and go for the WBC. Look at the champion now; Berto is big and strong, but I will exploit him, show him where the flaws in his technique are.
"I will win the world title."
Witter believes having to make 140lbs ultimately contributed to his defeat against Alexander, while an elbow injury during the fight made things even worse.
Two fights before that he had lost his world title to Timothy Bradley and although he is looking forward to an easier preparation as a welterweight, the Wincobank stylist admits he would love to be still involved in the scrap for supremacy at light-welter.
"If I could I would, but it's just a stretch too far for me," he said.
"I boxed at welterweight as an amateur in 1990 which tells you something - I just can't do the weight any more. But it's brilliant and I'd love to be there."
