Junior Witter is craving the respect he feels he deserves as he prepares to defend his WBC light-welterweight title against Vivian Harris in Doncaster on Friday night, live on Sky Sports. 'The Hitter' from Bradford, claimed his WBC belt last September by out-pointing DeMarcus Corley, but still feels he does not get the respect he deserves. A superb record of 35-1-2, with 20 knockouts, has not brought him the acknowledgment in the boxing world he feels his performances have merited. "It has been frustrating in the past that I have not got the credit I deserve," he said. "But that is life. "You look at someone like Amir Khan, he was in the right place at the right time and everything fell right for him. If he had come along four years later or four years earlier it might not have happened for him. "If I knew what I had to do to become a superstar I would have done it already. "Life is a funny thing and you don't always get the credit you feel you deserve, but all I can do is beat the people who are put in front of me and make sure I go out there and win. "Luckily for me I have got time."

Gas left in the tank

Some believe that Witter, now 33, does not have the time left in the game he thinks, but he knows that a good showing against former WBC champ Harris will give his standing a huge boost. Brendan Ingle's man does not believe that his chance to shine on the world stage has gone, saying he still has plenty of legs left to become a world force. "I am 33, but I am the youngest 33-year-old I know," he added. "I am fit and strong and people often think that I am in my early 20s, so my age doesn't worry me. "I have a great team behind me and I have got plenty of fights left in me. "I've got a long time ahead of me yet."
