Eastman finally beaten on home soil

Wayne Elcock became the first British fighter to beat Howard Eastman when he claimed a unanimous points decision in Coventry on Friday night. The enigmatic Eastman was having another of his 'off' days as his Birmingham opponent built up a lead in the first half of the British middleweight fight. The 36-year-old, who has failed in two world title challenges in his 51-fight career, clawed his way back into it winning the ninth and 10th, but hard-hitting Elcock stopped him in his tracks with a jolting right in the final round and took a deserved decision. "To win the British title is tremendous, and I've beaten a world-class fighter to win it," said the 32-year-old. "He had only ever been beaten by world-class fighters before and has dominated domestically for such a long time. "I knew I was the underdog - but I had total belief in myself." Eastman now faces an uncertain future with this latest defeat the fourth in his last six fights.
