Mexican keeps hold of title, calls out former foe Pacquiao

Juan Manuel Marquez comfortably out-pointed Rocky Juarez to maintain his grip on the WBC super-featherweight crown. The Mexican was awarded the bout 118-110, 117-111 and 120-10 on the judges' scorecards to improve his record to 48-3-1. Juarez was not helped by a cut above his right eye that hampered his vision after an accidental clash of heads in the first round. Although he battled on bravely he was unable to upset the champion, admitting afterwards that the injury had thrown him off his original game plan.

Blurred vision

"This is the first fight that I got cut and had blurred vision because of it," the challenger said. "I knew from the second when we bumped heads that it was going to be bad. "Never at one point did I want to stop the fight. The cut did affect me though, because it throws off your game plan." Marquez, who defeated compatriot Marco Antonio Barrera to claim the belt, dominated the bout at the Desert Diamond Casino, keeping his opponent at a distance while landing some telling blows. Despite his inability to force a stoppage he was happy with his efforts and is already calling out Manny Pacquiao. The pair have already fought once before, Marquez climbing off the canvas three times in the opening round to eventually force a draw.
Great preparation
"I had great preparation for this fight," he said afterwards. "I have worked very hard for four months, and now I want Manny Pacquiao, but he doesn't want to fight me." Also in action in Tucson, Arizona was Robert Guerrero, who wasted little time in disposing of opponent Martin Honorio. The IBF world featherweight champion connected with a heavy right hand to end the fight after just 56 seconds.
