Deal may be done within a week

The dream of a superfight between Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins looks like becoming a reality, according promoter Frank Warren. Warren revealed previously that an offer had been made to the 42-year-old American who dominated the middleweight division for a decade. And, speaking in Las Vegas at Ricky Hatton's post-fight press conference, Hopkins' promoters expressed confidence that a deal, including a 50-50 purse split, could be sealed before the end of the year.

Sooner

But Warren believes it could be done even sooner. "We are very close to closing the deal and I hope within a week we will have it done," he told BBC Radio Five Live. "I'll be sitting down with Joe this week to discuss things. Both boxers want the fight." Calzaghe, 35, and Hopkins became embroiled in a face-off at a media event ahead of the Hatton fight, when the American claimed: "I'll never let a white boy beat me."
Chasing
The Briton responded: "I've been chasing the fight with Hopkins for years but he's always backed down. "He promised to make the fight this time and I'm happy to come to America to make it happen." The unbeaten Calzaghe has ruled the super-middleweight division for a decade but would step up to light-heavy to face 'The Executioner'
