Bradford boxer wants unification showdown in New York
WBC light-welterweight champion Junior Witter is targeting a unification bout against IBF title holder Paulie Malignaggi.
Witter, 33, is keen to cross the Atlantic to tackle New Yorker Malignaggi on his home patch at Madison Square Garden.
"Madison Square Garden is the ultimate place to fight," Witter told Bradford's
Telegraph and Argus newspaper.
"It would be amazing to box in the home of the sport.
"Everybody these days is boxing in Las Vegas, which is absolutely brilliant and has become the new draw.
Something special
"But as a fighter who respects all the history I want to go the original home, where all the greats have fought. That would be something special.
"As far as I know, there have been talks on the management side with Malignaggi and we're just looking at when to do it. It would be a good fight for the British public.
Witter respects the ability of 'Magic Man' Malignaggi, who boasts a 23-1 record in six years as a professional.
His solitary defeat came on points in June 2006 against Miguel Cotto, but 12 months later he won a unanimous decision against Lovemore N'Dou to take the IBF's light-welterweight strap.
"Americans keep talking about Malignaggi as their big hope but I will beat him," added Witter.
"He's quick, got good movement and is a hard man."
