Puerto Rican ready to make his ring return in New York

Felix Trinidad has joined the queue to fight Joe Calzaghe, providing he can get past the sizeable presence of Roy Jones Jr first. The 35-year-old from Puerto Rico returns to the ring for the first time since May 2005 when he fights at Madison Square Gardens this weekend. His catchweight bout with Jones Jr, 38, is a chance for both boxers to show they are still a major force to be reckoned with, despite their advancing years. It also appears both men have Calzaghe firmly in their sights, with Trinidad following former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor in wanting to fight the Welshman. Speaking through an interpreter, the five-time former world champion had little hesitation in naming Calzaghe when he was asked who he would like to meet next.

Vision

"After I win, and I intend to win, there a lot of guys out there but Joe Calzaghe is in my vision and in my future," Trinidad replied. "So I will go after him too. There are a lot of fighters out there but Joe Calzaghe is one of them." Asked whether he intended to remain at 170 pounds, Trinidad - who is making the move up from middleweight - added: "I feel stronger at 168, 170 pounds than at 160 and so Joe Calzaghe is one of my top priorities." Trinidad, Jones Jr and Taylor may have to wait a while to get the chance to face the current undisputed super-middleweight champion. Calzaghe's next outing seems almost certain to be against Bernard Hopkins, with an announcement on the date and venue expected in the near future The pair have appeared to be on a collision course ever since they clashed during the weigh-in before Ricky Hatton's fight with Floyd Mayweather last December.
