Frank Warren has warned Amir Khan he must take less risks and be more watchful in his upcoming fight with Gairy St Clair.
Promoter warns Khan of 'Superman' threat
Promoter Frank Warren has warned Amir Khan he must take less risks and be more watchful when he defends his Commonwealth lightweight title against Australian Gairy St Clair, in London on February 2.
Khan has breezed his way to 15 consecutive wins with his 'all-out attack' style - however Warren is concerned about the threat of St Clair.
The experienced former IBF super-featherweight champion has never been stopped, and Warren believes the Bolton youngster must be on his game or he could be punished by the Australian.
Warren said: "Amir's a macho character and that's the excitement of him. The crowds come to watch him because he takes risks just like fighters like Nigel Benn before him.
"Amir sometimes takes risks I'd prefer him not to take but that's the way he fights.
"But all good fighters have been on the floor and he's got to learn from that. Gairy is the type of fighter who will really make him think."
Confident
Khan was due to fight Denmark's Martin Kristjansen, but St Clair stepped in after the Dane suffered an injury.
The 32-year-old is a more than credible replacement - boasting a professional record of 39 wins, five defeats and two draws.
The Aussie has fought at super-featherweight for must of his career - however he recently moved up for high profile fights against the likes of Diego Corrales and Vivian Harris, both of whom he stretched to points.
St Clair has acquired the nickname 'Superman' for his eagerness to fight anybody anywhere in the world, and the Australian is confident of causing an upset in London.
"Many have tried to stop the 'Superman' but I'm hard as a rock and I'll be there from the first minute to the last," he said.
"Amir is a good young fighter but I've got a lot of experience. I've been down and out a couple of times but I've always fought back.
"I've always fought bigger guys than me but I've always had a tremendous chin. I take fights at whatever weight.
"I've sometimes struggled but this is the time for me to get big fights."
