Roy Jones has targeted either Joe Calzaghe or the winner of Jermain Taylor's rematch with Kelly Pavlik after he defeated fellow legend Felix Trinidad.
Former pound-for-pound king Jones comfortably out-pointed Puerto Rican veteran Trinidad on Saturday, and a ninth world title fight would do him as his next assignment.
Unbeaten Welshman Calzaghe is due to face Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas in April, but Jones' people hope that fight falls through, enabling their man to step in.
Should a fight with Calzaghe for the undisputed super middleweight crown not come the 39-year-old's way, Jones would then look at meeting the winner of Taylor v Pavlik.
Pavlik dragged himself off the canvas to stop Taylor and win the WBC middleweight title in September.
The rematch in February is a non-tile contest at super middleweight, and the winner would well fancied to face Calzaghe or Hopkins, but Jones is looking to get in on the act.
Jones' advisor McGee Wright says that either Calzaghe, or the winner of the Taylor-Pavlik rematch are the top targets for his man.
"Jones-Calzaghe is real realistic," Wright said. "If he doesn't fight Bernard we can do the deal right away and if he still wants to fight in April then that's something we can overcome.
"But there are other things we can do.
"I don't think Bernard would want to get in with us again but there are a lot of other options, the winner of Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik is an option."
