Deontay Wilder can beat Bermane Stiverne and re-ignite the heavyweight division, says Glenn McCrory
American heavyweight world champion is just what we need

There is a world heavyweight title fight this weekend and Glenn McCrory is expecting plenty of excitement and even a new era dawning...
For the first time in years, we have a heavyweight world title fight you can get excited about.
Bermane Stiverne against Deontay Wilder is the first major fight of a year in which I think we will finally see Mayweather-Pacquiao happen, and to kick it all off, this is going to be an absolute barnstorming bonanza. You know this is not going to be dull.
This has got all the ingredients we need. It is a 50-50 fight, there is a real character challenging the champion and this does not involve one of the Klitschko brothers and with all due respect, we never expect anything dramatic from Wladimir these days.
I will admit we just don't really know enough about Stiverne, even though he is the WBC champion - and even though we have heard plenty from him, we don't know how good Wilder is. We need to see what he's got.
Stiverne has been in with better quality, like Chris Arreola and even Ray Austin, so he is probably the slight favourite but let's be honest, the excitement will come if Wilder can beat him.
The man called 'The Bronze Bomber' is a bit of a character and a bit of a lunatic at times too. He fits the bill, he really does. And yes, he has knocked 32 out of 32 opponents out and they might well have been nobodies but believe me, 32 lumps do not fall over for nothing. It is still a remarkable record.
I think we are all expecting Wilder to come and get Stiverne early. He has never been over four rounds and he is used to knocking people out. If the champion can take those bombs, it will be a different story, but there is an air of Tommy Hearns about this new heavyweight hope - tall, rangey, skinny legs but someone who can explode on you at any time.
Doors
If Wilder can't bomb him out, then the questions come thick and fast. Is he as good as we hoped? Has he got a good chin? Can he go more than four rounds? Can he box? We know Stiverne can do a lot of that, but has the 'Bronze Bomber' got a plan B?
I hope so, because America needs him to win. They have not have a world heavyweight champion since Shannon Briggs seven years ago - and he lost his first defence - so if Wilder wins, they are right back in the game.
American boxing is buzzing and hopefully their heavyweight division is coming out of the era dominated by the two Klitschkos. We have got our own big stars coming through, like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, and if America get that world title, doors will open. The heavyweight world will be alive again.
I am going for Wilder landing one of those bombs and finishing him off inside the first six rounds but of course, once it hits that halfway mark, then we will all lean towards Stiverne. He can box, he is smart and experienced over the distance.
We really don't know what's going to happen but I am sticking with a new American heavyweight hope making a name for himself. And if he does it in style, Wilder could well not only get an offer to fight Wladimir Klitschko, but it could well be the dawning of a new era.
