Joshua vs Breazeale: Chris Eubank Jr eyeing Gennady Golovkin bout
Tuesday 21 June 2016 23:21, UK
Chris Eubank Jr says he will put on a "hell of a show" against Tom Doran and has reiterated his desire for a world title fight with Gennady Golovkin this year.
The 26-year-old defends his British middleweight title against Doran on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's IBF heavyweight title bout with Dominic Breazeale at The O2 on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
It is the first time Eubank Jr has entered the ring since his last opponent Nick Blackwell was put into an induced coma following their bout in March, but he says he is fully focused on the job in hand and is not underestimating the undefeated Doran.
"I feel how I look, and that is great. Training camp went very well. I'm in tip-top shape and ready to go," Eubank Jr told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I never underestimate any fighter, especially undefeated fighters - he is 17-0. He doesn't know how to lose yet so that makes him a very dangerous man.
"I have been training like an animal throughout my entire training camp and he hasn't been overlooked. It is going to be a hell of a show."
On getting back into the ring following the fight with Blackwell, who recovered from the coma but retired from boxing, he said: "It has to be done. Life must go on. Me and Nick have squashed the beef, well hopefully - the beef has been squashed on my part anyway.
"Now I have to look towards making my path towards the middleweight world championship fight against Gennady Golovkin, which hopefully will be happening in September.
"I'm on a career path here, I have been working my whole life to get to this point and I'm right at the pinnacle so I'm fully focused."
Chris Eubank Sr is adamant that his son is ready to face WBA Super and IBF world middleweight champion Golovkin (35-0-KO32), who is widely recognised as one of the planet's top pound-for-pound fighters.
"Junior is taking the biggest risk in fighting the No 1 middleweight in the world, after we get past Doran obviously," Eubank Sr told Sky Sports News HQ.
"So if everybody comes together and it makes sense to us and they support us then we will support the whole British public and the world and we'll wrestle and get that championship away from Golovkin, as I know this man can.
"He's been ready a long time, it's only for him to know it, and he knows it now."
Eubank Jr agreed with his father's assertion that he is ready to challenge 'Triple G' as long as he gets past Doran on Saturday night.
"I was born ready, I've been doing this since I was 14 years old and before that I was dreaming about doing it. I'm 26 years old now and this is my time to shine," he said.
"Doran first, like I said, I never underestimate or overlook. He is a dangerous opponent, he's got a lot of heart which he will need on the night, and he says he is going to stand there and go toe-to-toe with me so I guess we are going to see some fireworks."
